The heart is directly controlled by the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system via the impulse conduction system. It therefore serves as an effector in ANS analysis to measure the autonomic nervous system.
The ANS, with its two main nerves, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, is a superior control center in the body that controls and regulates subordinate processes and all vital functions such as blood pressure, respiration, heart rate, immune system, hormone system and digestive system.
An ANS disturbance that comes along with an overactive sympathetic and a hypoactive parasympathetic nervous system will lead inevitably to changes in cardiac excitation and heart rate variability (interval between heart beats) and is therefore measurable!
The basis of the ANS analysis is the recording of a technically perfect electrocardiogram (520 R-R intervals) through a chest belt with a measurement resolution of 1 ms. Depending on the patient's pulse, this procedure takes between 5-10 minutes. The patient is measured while sitting. The transmission of the data from the chest belt to the receiver is carried out digitally via radio. The following graphical representation and calculation of the ANS main parameters happens automatically.
