Platelet-Rich Plasma

Principles of PRP: Activation of body-specific healing powers

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma (= platelet-rich or thrombocyte-rich plasma) and is currently a hot medical topic. This therapy has been used for many years. It is currently experiencing a real hype - and rightly so, because it promises unique treatment successes - especially in orthopedics and cosmetic medicine!

How does PRP work?

PRP therapy aims at the activation of pathogenic growth factors, cytokines and stem cells.

Approximately 8-30 ml of blood are taken from the patient. It is then processed for injection by centrifugation in special PRP tubes. The thrombocytes gained with this method include a variety of cytokines, hormones, stem cells, wound healing factors and growth factors. The injection of this concentrate into affected, joints, muscles, tendons, skin parts or hair roots represents a regenerative and sustainable method for strengthening the autologous cell regeneration.

What is needed for PRP preparation?

For obtaining the PRP from your patient's full blood, you only need two things: specially processed plasma tubes for blood sampling and a commercial centrifuge - you can get both directly from us!

Can I use my regular plasmas tubes?

No, they are not suitable. The tubes of W Medical Systems contain a special gel for the clean separation of the plasma from the remaining blood components.

Furthermore, the tubes are provided with a special coating so that platelets do not adhere to the walls of the tubes.

What is the advantage of the PRP kits from W Medical Systems compared to other commercial sets?

We provide you with the entire equipment you need for PRP treatment.

Due to the guaranteed sterility, it is not necessary to inject the PRP through a filter. Some other kits are equipped with a 0.2μ filter. If such a filter is used, some of the thrombocytes, which are actually the key to the success of the therapy, can get lost.

What other benefits does PRP offer to you and your patients?

The time required is very short: The entire process takes less than 20 minutes.

For your patients, it is a 100% natural therapy which does not involve any risks or side effects such as a treatment with cortisone, hyaluronic acid or botox.

Who should be treated with PRP?

The applications of PRP are wide and varied. It is most commonly applied in orthopedics (arthrosis, bone regeneration), sports medicine (tendinopathy, fracture treatment, wound healing) and aesthetic medicine (skin rejuvenation, hair loss).

PRP in Orthopedics

Due to its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and wound healing-accelerating effect, PRP can improve circulation and thus improve the mobility of joints.

The thrombocytes gained with this method include a variety of cytokines, hormones, stem cells, wound healing factors and growth factors. Among them, the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist. The concentration of this protein is too low in degenerative diseases to inhibit the destruction of cartilage, muscles, spinal tissue, and other articular structures.

The fields of application for PRP therapy are extremely diverse and proven by numerous studies:

  • Arthroses
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Iliosacral Joint Syndrome
  • Fractures
  • Cartilage damages (including osteochondritis dissecans)
  • Acute or chronic sports injuries and overstraining, such as tendinopathies
  • Muscle injuries
  • Meniscus damages
  • Severe healing wounds

PRP in Aesthetics

In the field of cosmetics, PRP therapy is often known under terms such as Vampire Lifting, Dracula Therapy or Plasma Lifting.

The production of thr epidermal growth factor (EGF), which, as a natural component of our skin, activates cell renewal and regeneration, decreases with age. The processed blood stimulates cell growth and causes tissue regeneration of dermis and epidermis.

This can generate numerous positive effects:

  • Rejuvenation: Wrinkle elimination in the face neck and décolleté
  • Lip augmentation and volume structuring
  • Collagen formation and progressive collagen neoformation
  • Improvement of skin appearance: Revitalization of the tissue by active and endogenous hydration
  • Accelerated skin healing after laser or peeling treatments or for wound and scar treatment
  • Effective tightening of connective tissue from the inside and revitalization of tonicity: Treatment of stretch marks and cellulite
  • Regulation of excessive hair loss (head hair, eyebrows, beard) by stimulating hair follicle stem cells

Combination with other methods

PRP is often combined with other treatment methods such as microneedling, mesotherapy, or autologous fat injections.

The PRP application has proven particularly successful in combination with interstitial and intra-articular laser therapy. The regenerative cellular effects of  laser irradiation are used to achieve even better treatment results. The laser irradiates the joint or the infected site directly "from the inside", stimulating cell activity and tissue regeneration.

All Advantages at a Glance

  • Easy handling, procedure doesn’t take longer than 20 min.
  • Cost efficiency: No other substances necessary
  • Natural procedure with autologous blood: No side effects or toxicities
  • Natural healing process: Stimulates the body's own healing powers
  • Can be combined with other treatment methods such as laser therapy
  • Improves quality of life
